Sharon Olds (Outside Reading)

I regret not writting the poems down to remeber their names,  I can only tell you pieces of each poem. There was one poem though that was very... interesting.  Sharon wrote about her naked body. I know, it sounds really creepy to say but it was the funniest poem that evening. When she wrote this poem, she described details of her body, as she saw herself standing in front of a mirror. She was not literal or anything, but she wrote it in a pretty histerical way. Everyone in the audience was laughing.  If I remember correctly, she described the parts of her body as foods? Like I said, it does sounds kind of wierd to say but that poem kept everyone laughing.

When Sharon shared her poems, she had a very relaxed smooth voice, it was very calming. I was supprised about all the fancy words she used sometimes they were hard to keep up with, I do not have a very large vocabulary.  Even though I did not understand alot of the things she said, I thought that her poems sounded really elegant and smooth.
When she had finshed her reading, Sharon asked the audience for questions.  The lady in front me stood up, and thanked Sharon for her art.  Apparently she had been following Sharon at a couple of her readings over the years. She explained how they were similar and "grew up" with daughters of the same age.   This lady related her life to Sharon and was very thankful for her work.  It was really nice I guess, though she seemed like one of those intense fans. Not only was she similar in age, but she also had long grey hair like Sharon! It was a little creepy, though I guess I do not really understand much about the poetry world and the passion of these poets. It was a very interesting experience,  I probably would go again if I could :)
